What is Substance Abuse Partial Hospitalization Program?
There are several phases of substance abuse treatment. PHP or Partial Hospitalization Program, the next phase in treatment, following detox begins the foundation of recovery. Patients who still need direct medical supervision, but who do not need to stay overnight in a hospital setting, can move to PHP. Medical services provided by nurses and or physicians monitor client progress as the client continues addiction treatment. Sometimes, individuals will enter PHP after returning from a relapse. PHP treatment provides a highly structured treatment alternative to inpatient treatment and is more intense than those of IOP or OP in order to stabilize the client’s physical, mental, and emotional state.
Treatment Alternatives provides those vulnerable to addiction relapse a chance to recover in our multidisciplinary team approach PHP program. Our program meets the evidence based standards set by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Joint Commission.

Everyone who enters PHP receives compassion, structure and the support to learn early in treatment how to “show up” for one’s self, for others and the meaning of being responsible for one’s actions. Between the supervision during the day, and the sober housing facilities, without drugs and alcohol, the addict and/or alcoholic experiences life on a daily basis
Further incentive for living a clean and sober life can be found in the 12 Step principles and mentors and role models provided daily at 12 Step meetings. At these meetings, clients hear and see living proof of recovery as men and women demonstrate that good times or difficult times, no one has to turn to drugs and/or alcohol to cope. Clients can hear and see the chaos and devastation created by drugs and alcohol. They can identify and begin to understand their own behavior and consequences of their behavior. They also begin to understand that they are not unique or alone in their experiences and that others in recovery have rebuilt their lives, overcome shame, blame, fear, anger and a host of other feelings that used to send them out to drink or drug.
The intense structure of our PHP program gives the addict and/or alcoholic multiple experiences through group, life skills training, addiction education, and individual therapy and more to create the foundation for his or her life in recovery.
Recovery is life long process. Treatment Alternatives’ PHP program starts you on the journey with the skills, knowledge and support to succeed in long term recovery.
